Why have a bridge?

Contact Us Now

As well as affecting your confidence and causing issues with eating, drinking and speaking, a gap in your smile can also affect your oral health and lead to gum disease and bad breath. It is also important to replace missing teeth to prevent alignment issues and unwanted movement of your remaining teeth.

Bridges are usually made from porcelain bonded to a metal base, to give a natural looking finish, although a full metal bridge may be used if it will not be too visible. Bridges are a more secure alternative to partial dentures as they are fixed in place, and can also be used with dental implants to replace multiple missing teeth.

What does the treatment for bridges involve?

What does the treatment for bridges involve?

The fitting of a bridge is quite a lengthy process, and we will need to see you for a few appointments to complete treatment. At your initial consultation, we examine your teeth and make sure you are suitable for a bridge.

We begin treatment by preparing the supporting adjacent teeth, removing a layer of enamel to make room for a crown to be fitted. We take impressions of these teeth which are used to accurately custom make your bridge. We fit you with a temporary bridge to protect your teeth while we wait for your final one to be ready.

Once your bridge has been made, we check it for a precise and comfortable fit in your mouth before cementing it securely into place.
